A meaningful, inclusive, and comprehensive activities and wellbeing programme is one of our four pillars of quality at Porthaven, alongside exceptional care, inspiring environments, and great food.
In 2016, our leisure and wellness offering won an award for the Best Activities Team Development — which is particularly special as it has only ever been awarded once by the National Activities Provider Association (NAPA).
Since then, we have continued to develop and evolve our resident experience to prioritise wellbeing in every one of our residents. Our programme draws on the latest academic research and practices and is augmented by continual staff training to ensure the highest quality of resident lifestyle, with meaningful leisure, emotional and social support.
Our activities contribute to the overall health of our residents, to ensure they enjoy the best quality of life regardless of their needs and circumstances.
All of our luxury Porthaven care homes have a dedicated team of Activity and Wellbeing Coordinators. These passionate individuals are the ‘glue’ who bring together the whole home staff team, residents, and their families and friends — as well as the external local community — to deliver engaging and purposeful programmes and activities that are relevant for groups of residents as well as individuals.
Our Coordinators use all of a home’s amenities and space, both inside and out in the gardens, to provide the best in group and individual activities. They create programmes matched to resident preferences, supplemented by a schedule of trips out in the home’s minibus to keep residents connected to their local community.
We understand that every resident is different and can benefit from a variety of factors to improve their wellbeing, such as:
The World Health Organisation defines health as the ‘state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’. At Porthaven Care Homes we strive to enhance each residents quality of life through a variety of activities such as:
Our Activity and Wellbeing Coordinators also work with our Dementia Care Champions to include and support those who find it difficult to communicate their needs and preferences. No matter what type of care is required, our staff organise a range of activities so everyone can enjoy life.
Suzy Cooper, Head of Activities and Wellbeing for Porthaven, said, “Our Activity and Wellbeing staff are selected and trained to be caring, creative and respectful of our residents’ diverse needs and preferences, supporting resident dignity, abilities and preferences, to ensure the best in resident lifestyle, wellbeing and contentment.”
