Located in the world famous ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton is the setting for Penhurst Gardens Care Home. Steeped in tradition and heritage, Chipping Norton has a picture postcard setting with Cotswold stone architecture and is surrounded by rolling countryside.

Our care home is situated just five minutes’ walk from the thriving High Street, set back in a tranquil and idyllic enclave on the former Penhurst School site on New Street. Nearby towns and villages like Woodstock, Burford, Witney, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Banbury are all within easy reach.

Opened in December 2016, Penhurst Gardens provides 24 hour residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for the elderly in an elegant and spacious home incorporating numerous thoughtful and practical features which ensure Penhurst Gardens is able to meet the changing needs of our residents.

Porthaven’s expertly trained and professional staff are dedicated to the care, comfort and dignity of all our residents, with special emphasis given to promoting independence, privacy, respect and wellbeing.

All residents at Penhurst Gardens benefit from living in a caring environment with generously appointed private bedrooms with en suite wetrooms, and plentiful communal living areas including sitting rooms, restaurants, a café, hairdressing salon, activities and wellbeing room and private dining room for special family occasions.

In keeping with our unique and award winning activities and wellbeing philosophy, our residents also benefit from our private and secure landscaped gardens for peaceful relaxation, gardening and if the weather permits, gentle exercise.

Armed Forces Day

This Armed Forces Day, we were proud to honour the veterans living in our home with a special Veterans Appreciation Lunch held in our private dining room.

As a heartfelt thank you for their service and sacrifice, our veterans enjoyed a delicious three-course meal while sharing memories, experiences, and stories from their time in the Armed Forces. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on their remarkable contributions and celebrate the lives they have led.

We were also delighted to welcome John, the son of one of our veterans, who joined us to represent his mum at the lunch. John shared fascinating stories of her life and service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during World War II, helping us all gain a deeper appreciation of her experiences during a significant period in history.

Thank you to all our veterans, past and present, for your courage, dedication, and service. It was a privilege to celebrate you on this special day.

And a special thank you to fellow resident Lilian, who hand-painted a card for each of our veterans. Her thoughtful gesture made the day even more memorable.

We were treated to a wonderful visit from JB Steelpan Music earlier this May, and what a joyful afternoon it was! The sound of tropical steel pan music filled the room and had everyone smiling, tapping along, and even up dancing!

It truly felt like a little trip to the Caribbean as we enjoyed an afternoon of tropical tunes, rhythm, and plenty of laughter.

A big thank you to Julie for bringing such brilliant energy and music to our home – what a special way to brighten the week!

Timeless art!

Over the last two weeks, our residents have been getting creative in our weekly Timeless Art Sessions with Activities Coordinator Lilly.

This time, we tried our hand at pottery—designing and painting our very own jewellery trays! Each piece was as unique as its creator. Our brilliant resident Kate decorated hers with delicate little pink flowers, while Iris chose a beautiful pink and blue colourway.
